ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TECHNOLOGIES DEPARTMENT ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION and CONTROL PROGRAM

HOME

The importance of environmental pollution and its control, which is one of the biggest problems in terms of human health and environmental balance in our country and in the world, is increasing day by day. In particular, the environmental threat, also known as global warming, has brought about the need to focus on this issue. Global climate change, the increase in the rate of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the depletion of the ozone layer, deforestation, pollution of seas and inland waters, waste materials (garbage, industrial waste, toxic waste), soil pollution, the deterioration of the balance and health of the forest ecosystem, the destruction of wetland ecosystems and the decrease in biological diversity are considered to be the main environmental problems. The purpose of the Environmental Protection and Control Program, established in 2011, is to train intermediate staff who are aware of the environmental problems listed above and who will work on the establishment and operation of the necessary facilities for the disposal of wastes that cause air, water and soil pollution without harming the environment.

ABOUT

History:

Eskişehir Vocational School, which has 3300 m2 closed area and 16500 m2 open area, had its foundation laid in May 2011 and its building was completed in December. The Environmental Protection Control Program was opened in the Technical Programs Department in 2011.

ESOGU-ESKİŞEHİR MYO-ESOB building has 2 classrooms (per 50 m2) and 100 m2 of a student laboratory used by the Environmental Protection and Control Program. There is also a 50 m2 meeting room and a 40 m2 internet room used as common areas by students. There is also a 350 m2 dining hall and a canteen for 250 people in the building.

Environmental Laboratory:

Within the scope of Environmental Laboratory I and II courses, it is aimed to provide students with the necessary knowledge to use laboratory methods in environmental applications. For this purpose, in our laboratory, laboratory rules, introduction of laboratory devices and materials, weighing and solution preparation, pH and pH indicators, solubility determination and examination of the effect of temperature on solubility, chromatographic analysis, UV-visible spectrophotometry, introduction of devices and equipment used in microbiology laboratories and use of microscopes, some microscopic organisms used in water quality determination, introduction of benthic organisms living in our freshwaters from invertebrates and fish living in our freshwaters from vertebrates, collection and storage techniques, parameters that need to be measured on-site in determining water quality, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), determination of suspended solids, dye adsorption from solution onto various adsorbents, determination of phosphate in water with spectrometry, determination of sulfate, determination of hardness, determination of chloride, sampling and analysis methods for organic and inorganic pollution parameters in water, applications are carried out in the fields of flue gas analysis.

In addition, within the scope of microbiology applications of the Environmental Laboratory II course, support is received from the infrastructure and facilities of the Biotechnology Laboratory located on the central campus, and practical courses are held in this laboratory.

GRADUATE PROGRAM

There is no transfer to a postgraduate program. Environmental Technicians will be able to transfer vertically to Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry Departments after the associate degree program, taking into account the Vertical Transfer Exam results and associate degree graduation grade point averages. Since this also allows students to enter undergraduate programs without taking the more difficult LYS exams, students have a great advantage in this regard compared to regular high school graduates. After being placed in an undergraduate program with the vertical transfer exam or LYS exam and successfully completing it, students gain the right to take a postgraduate degree.
